Hi everyone! So sorry it’s been so long since I posted last, a lot of changes have been happening in my life! I recently after almost 4 years, left Sephora. I decided to pursue my freelance career which is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with my decision! I will miss Sephora a lot, and I am so happy to have had the experience.

Ok back to the review, so I am going to be talking about some products I purchased from a brand new brand that recently launched on Sephora.com. And yes, the brand is really called “Pretty Vulgar” haha. Here’s a little background on the brand:

According to their website, prettyvulgar.com, they were created by a group of makeup artists, industry vets, and innovators who were inspired by the different colors and characteristics of birds around them (hence the bird cages on their packaging). What I also learned, and what I LOVE about the brand is that they are cruelty-free, free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates and more. Which is important to me, because those ingredients can be super harmful to the skin and break you out.

Also, the brand really believes in celebrating your personal uniqueness that makes you you, and encourages diversity, trying new things, and learning from each other. Pretty neat concept, I love the positivism and how they accept all types of girls and guys weather you’re super girly, or more on the edgy side. I’m assuming that’s how they came up with the name “Pretty Vulgar” since those words are quite opposite.

Lets talk about product. I purchased two items in the line that I feel I use the most: setting spray and lipstick. The packaging honestly is what really made me curious about the line, I mean just look how girly and adorable it is!

I’m obsessed. So the setting spray is called the Lock it In Setting Spray and it retails for $30. I’m kinda sad because I thought it would have the old school sprayer where you squeeze the pink handle, but it’s just for looks. So this is just a regular setting spray that all skin types can use to extend the wear of your makeup, and add moisture to your skin. I feel like it did just that, and I do really like the product. I feel like setting spray in general is a must-have, because it really just melts any powders into the skin, making the makeup appear over-all more skin-like. This one has no scent at all, which was kind of disappointing but in all honesty better, because fragrance can be a skin irritant. Overall I definitely love this product, and I love how beautiful it looks on my vanity!

The second product I got is their My Lips are Sealed Liquid Lipstick in the shade Secret Sabotage which goes for $24 a tube. I’m going to start off by saying how much I adore this color. It is a beautiful metallic mauve-nude color and whenever I wear it I get so many compliments from strangers! That rarely happens when I wear a lip color, so I know this one is special. The formula is definitely like a vinyl-gloss, not so much a “liquid lipstick”. I was thinking this would be like a metallic stain to where it would completely dry down and not transfer. But it’s definitely more of a long-wear gloss, which is still nice because it does last a long time on the lips. It also isn’t sticky, and it doesn’t dry your lips out like some glosses can.

I am super impressed with this brand, the packaging is adorable, and the products are top quality. I can’t wait to try some more items out from this line!! You guys should check them out as well and let me know what you end up trying!

Until next time (which hopefully won’t be too long),

Hi everyone! I’ve been meaning to do this post for quite some time now, and I’m so excited to share this review with you. I was sent a  Laura Mercier Intense Clays Editorial Eye Palette  via Influenster complimentary to try out and review. If you don’t know what Influenster is, it’s a site that sends users free product of all different categories to test out and give honest reviews. The more you participate, the more products you will receive. If you are interested in trying it out, you can sign up here. Anyways, back to the review!

I’m going to make this short and sweet for you guys, so here it goes. As you can see in the photo above, the shadows are pretty pigmented. There are three matte colors, three shimmers and a setting powder. I’m not much of a heavy smokey eye girl, but if you are this would definitely be the perfect palette for you. I like how simple it is, and not intimidating with a ton of colors. The matte shades pick up well on a brush, but I will say the metallic shades applied better with finger tips. I created a really simple look which you can view a mini tutorial and a picture of on my Instagram which is @cecily_mua. I only used three of the shades which is un heard of for me, because I always feel like I have to use multiple shades to create a smokey eye. The dark colors blend sooo easily and gave a really nice gradient look.

The one thing I really like in the palette is actually the setting powder. It’s meant to go on top of a finished eye shadow look to set the colors in place all day. It has a slight shimmer to it as well, but not enough to change the look of the shadows. I struggle with pretty oily eyelids and they are also slightly hooded. This makes it hard to wear smokey eyes because it will end up creasing half way through the day. These shadows stayed in place ALL day with the setting powder. I was so impressed I’m definitely going to use the setting powder with other eye shadows and every look I create.

Overall its a beautiful, simple palette. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a nice, small palette with a BOMB setting powder I would check it out for sure. Laura Mercier is the queen of setting powders for the face, so it was definitely a brilliant idea to create one for the eyes. I hope you guys liked this review, and as always feel free to send me any feedback, or things you would like to see/read about. Thank you for reading!

I can’t believe it’s already almost the end of the year. I would say for the most part, I had a pretty great year! I got to spend it with amazing people, went on some vacations and had nothing but great times. I am looking forward to the holiday season though, and to spend it with my family. I’m hoping next year will start off positive and I can create even more fun memories. Anyway, I’m just going to talk about a few of my favorite products I’ve really been enjoying throughout the month of November.

Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette Rose Gold Edition $65- Let me first apologize for how dirty my palette looks in the picture, my makeup doesn’t stay clean and pretty for too long (oops.) I am SOO glad I got my hands on one of these palettes. I saw pictures of it floating around on Instagram for awhile and was droooooling over it. It finally launched on sephora.com after what seemed like forever I was wanting it and I placed my order instantly! I’m obsessed with the glitter shades, they are almost foiled in a sense. They are sooo creamy that they almost feel wet to the touch. I will say, the best way to apply the glitter shades is with your fingers, they will not pick up on a brush. The matte shades are also super creamy and blendable! I think it’s an awesome fall/winter palette and is definitely a must have in your collection. It’s been sold out with Sephora for awhile, but I believe is still in stock on their website, which is linked in the title. I hope you can snag one, it’s worth it! Below are swatches of the glitter shades left to right in order as seen in the palette:

heartKate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift $95- Okay, so I’ve used this stuff on and off throughout the years, but never really knew exactly what it did and usually would give the bottles I acquired away. I got my hands on one recently, and started incorporating it into my night time skincare routine as my serum- so the step before moisturizer. What it does is it helps to combat uneven skin tone, sagging in the skin, and dryness. I’m not super worried about the anti-aging aspect, although it is good for prevention. I like it more for evening my skin tone due to acne scarring, and adding hydration. Because I do use some products to help with breakouts, sometimes those products can get drying. I feel like this really helps to replenish that hydration at night time and is very light-weight. You basically spray that funky nozzle thing directly on the face- I do my forehead, across my cheeks and nose, and chin. It feels refreshing and I just massage it into my skin and follow with my nighttime hydration oil or creme. I love this product!

Diorskin Airflash $62- Sooo I’ve been wanting this foundation for 3+ years now. Ever since I started working for Sephora and discovered it- I’ve been dying for it! I don’t know why I never just splurged and purchased it, probably because the price is a little higher. Anyways, I finally caved and purchased it. I’ve come into work early and have used it before and I knew I already loved it and it lasted awesomely on my skin throughout the day as well- which is hard for me to find in a foundation. I also purchased this brush to apply it with, which I feel is the best kind of brush for this foundation. The best way to apply it is to spray on the brush, then stipple on the face. I’ve been loving it as a medium coverage topper on top of another liquid foundation such as my Double Wear. This is such a beautiful foundation. In store I use it on almost every one of my special event clients who are going out, or when I freelance it’s amazing on brides. Really anyone getting pictures taken. It just looks so flawless and airbbrushed!

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Candy Cane $21- First of all, the formula on these liquid lipsticks are BOMB. They don’t get all flaky and dry throughout the day and feel like nothing is on your lips, but they stay on all day even through eating and drinking. This shade is a limited edition color for the holidays, and it’s like a super deep almost red pink. It’s adorable. I feel like it’s one of those shades that look good on every skin tone. Click here to see a picture on my Instagram of me wearing it. And guess what. It also smells AND tastes like peppermint mocha! I’m allll about it this holiday season.

heartYves Saint Laurent Black Opium Perfume $68 (1 oz)- Oh my gosh. This has been one of my favorite scents since it launched. It’s so warm and sweet, but slightly floral. I get compliments on it every time I wear it out. I have a all time favorite “night out” perfume, and this one is kind of one of my other night time fragrances I like to wear. But I feel like this one worn during the day is still appropriate, because it has those floral notes still. It’s just so yummy, you HAVE to smell it!

MAC Cosmetics Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Show Gold $33- Holy shit. This might be one of the most beautiful highlighters I’ve ever seen. All the new ones in this collection are unreal. I’ve been into a super chunky/glittery highlighter lately and these are just stunning. It’s a beautiful peach tone that breaks pink in the right light. I want to collect all of the other highlighters in the collection now! I apply it first dry, then wet for a maximum glow. Here’s a swatch of it below: the left swatch is dry, right is wet.

I hope you guys liked this post! It was fun to do for sure, and I’m going to try from now on to do monthly favorites and more fun posts 🙂 Thanks for reading.

Key Products to Maintaining a Clear, Beautiful Complexion

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, and I apologize. My life has been pretty hectic and going through a lot of major changes! One of the most exciting changes is that I have been promoted to a Beauty Studio Coordinator at Arizona’s newest and most beautiful Sephora! Located at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix, I have been working hard with my amazing new team the last month or so training, merchandising, and getting the store ready for opening! We are officially open now, so come and see the new store and shop our products!! So exciting.

Anyways, I’ve been wanting to make this post on these products I’ve been using that have really cleared up my skin. They are the heartDr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Universal Daily Peel, and the heartSunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil.

I’ve used the peels on and off for the last 3 years, and whenever I use these- I get a crazy amount of compliments on my skin! These really address every single skin concern. They come in different intensities, and I usually use the extra strength that has 7 different acids in it, but I’ve been using the original formula lately which has 5 different acids in them. Its a two step peel that is safe for daily use that exfoliates, resurfaces, and over all improves the appearance of the skin. The pads that come in the 2 step pack are pre-moistened with the blend of acids. You just swipe the pad all over the face, decollete, and arms until the pad is dry. You then follow the second pad after two minutes of doing the first. Finish with your favorite serum and moisturizer. If you try these, I can pretty much guarantee you will see an immediate change and improvement in your skin. Some of the main acids found in these pads are glycolic,  salicylic, malic, citric, and lactic acid. All which do amazing things for the skin. If you can be sensitive and reactive, I suggest trying out the ultra-gentle version of this peel first.

The second product I’ve only recently fallen in love with, is the Sunday Riley U.F.O oil. This is my night time moisturizer, and since it is an oil it deeply hydrates my skin as well as treats to keep the skin clear and healthy. It’s main ingredient is 1.5% of salicylic acid- which helps to treat existing breakouts, as well as help prevent future breakouts. It also helps to get in and break up any pore-clogging debris on the skin. It also has some awesome ingredients to help with acne scarring/other discoloration in the skin. Since I’ve been using this product I have had significantly less breakouts as well as cystic acne I tend to get every once in a while. Typically acne clearing products can tend to dry out the skin, but this one has milk thistle and cucumber seed oil to hydrate the skin.

The combo of these products have really helped not only to clear up my skin, but to maintain that clear skin as well. 10/10 would recommend! I hope you guys liked this post and found it helpful. I also hope that if you get to try either of these you let me know how you like it and if its helping you like it helped me! Thank you sooo much for reading!

SO. After my last review on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation, I hinted that I would be doing a post on my favorite foundation. Well, here it is! I’m so excited to be talking about this product, and I hope if you haven’t already fallen in love with it, you would want to try it after reading this! Without further ado.. my holy grail, favorite current foundation is…

YASSSS. So here’s a little back story on how I RE-discovered it in the last 6 months or so. Back when I first started working for Sephora I received a bottle of it in gratis to try and I don’t really remember absolutely dying over it. But Double Wear has been a top seller in Sephora for YEARS and everyone always wanted color matches in it. But I was never super intrigued. My skin is pretty oily, and most foundations do not last long on me and when I start to get oily, foundation just starts to “separate” and look gross. I recently found my old bottle and decided to wear it, and I can’t believe what I have been missing all these years!! It is SOOO full coverage, and it sets kind of to a powder finish (I still add setting powder to mattify my skin even more) and it does not move on my skin all day. I’m so in love with it. But of course, when I fell in love with it- it was around the time when my (and most Sephoras) stopped carrying Estee Lauder 😦 So I do have to order it now, which is hard color wise to pick one. I’m on my 3rd color now cause I can’t get it perfect. This foundation is just so amazing, ESPECIALLY if you’re oily. I look the same at 10pm as I did at 10am when I first applied it. It’s truly amazing. I keep trying things in hope to find something better but, honestly, this is the best foundation I’ve ever used and I will continue to re-purchase until something better comes out. I love to apply it with a brush first, then blend out with a damp Beauty Blender.

If you guys want to try it, I would suggest going to a department store where it is carried and have some one color match you there. Maybe even take a sample to see if it works for your skin. I hope you all found this post helpful and let me know what you think, or what your holy grail foundation is!

OK, so I know a lot of people like to read reviews before they invest in beauty products- especially foundations. Foundation can be SO hard to find the perfect one for your skin tone and type. I’m personally combination/oily and can be breakout prone. I get pretty oily in my t-zone throughout the day, so I love anything that is long wear and matte. I also love an extremely full coverage. In the last year or so, “stick” foundations have become popular and a lot of the brands have come out with one, and when I heard this Anastasia Beverly Hills one was better for oilier skin- I knew I had to try it. One of my clients who likes the same coverage and has oily skin like me, told me that she LOVED it and it lasted all day. So that day, I purchased it and tried it the next day for work. This is how I wore it:

primer: Cover FX Mattifying Primer

application: drew directly on my skin and blended out with the Hourglass Vanish Foundation Brush

set: with the Hourglass Ambient® Lighting Powder in “Ethereal Light” all over and baked with the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in my t-zone.

Overall: The coverage was AMAZING. It was the perfect full and flawless coverage, and the shade I picked (Warm Natural) was a perfect match. Unfortunately, after a few hours of wearing it at work, my oil started coming through and caused the foundation to break up on me and start to wear off. I also did try it on a client of mine who was very dry and it did not look good and stuck to any of her dry patches. I think if you have pretty normal skin and like a matte finish, this foundation would be perfect for you. I also think for just highlighting and contouring it would be great for. It’s also only $25 which is awesome for a high end foundation.

Sadly, I ended up returning the foundation today and will just use the money I spent towards my holy grail foundation at the moment. (Which I’ll make a separate post about soon ;)) It was worth a try, and I’m definitely not hating on it- it did look beautiful on me for a little bit. It just wasn’t for my oily t-zone skin. I hope some of you found this helpful!
